Remote patient monitoring, with nothing to wear and nothing to remember.

Remote patient monitoring lets a care team follow a patient's readings at home, between visits. The XK300 Essence does it from the wall above the bed: resting heart rate and breathing rate, read through bedding every night, with nothing for the patient to put on, charge or press.

What remote patient monitoring is

The care team sees the readings between visits.

A connected device sends readings from home. A clinician reviews them, and the team acts when the pattern changes. In the United States, Medicare covers remote patient monitoring for eligible patients.

Prescribed

A clinician decides the patient needs it and orders the device.

Read at home

The device sends readings to the care team, every day.

Reviewed

The team looks at the trend, not just one reading.

Acted on

A call, a visit or a change in care, when the pattern says so.

US billing codes for remote patient monitoring include CPT 99453 and 99454 for set-up and the monthly device supply, and 99457 and 99458 for management time. For information; the provider's billing team confirms eligibility.

Why devices go quiet

Most monitoring needs a routine. Routines stop.

A cuff, a scale or a finger clip only reads when the patient remembers to use it. The device-supply code needs readings on most days of the month, so a skipped routine is a gap in care and in the record. A sensor that reads while the patient sleeps does not depend on a routine.

  1. PrescribedThrough a doctor, a care provider or a remote-monitoring programme.
  2. Up in a few minutesOn the wall above the bed, plugged in, with the communication module that comes with it. The provider sets up the connection. There is no app for the patient.
  3. Every night, read through beddingResting heart rate and breathing rate every few seconds while the patient is at rest, plus bed presence and movement.
  4. The care team sees the trendEach night beside the patient's own recent nights, so a change against their own pattern stands out between visits.

Questions

About remote monitoring with the Essence.

Can I buy the XK300 Essence myself?

No. It is a prescription device, supplied through your doctor, care provider or remote-monitoring programme. For a wellness product for your own bedroom, without a prescription, there is Kardian Somily, a separate product and not the cleared device.

Is it covered by Medicare?

It is included for eligible Medicare beneficiaries, including Medicare Advantage, through a participating remote-monitoring programme. A care coordinator confirms eligibility, and a clinician decides whether it is right for the patient.

What does the patient have to do?

Nothing after installation. It reads from the wall above the bed, through bedding. There is nothing to wear or charge, and no app to open.

What does it need at home?

A wall socket for the USB plug and the communication module that comes with it. The provider sets up the connection.

Who sees the data?

The care team that prescribed it. There is no camera and no microphone; the sensor reads movement, not pictures or sound.

Is it an alarm?

No. It is cleared to measure heart rate and breathing rate to inform care. It is not an alarm for acute or life-threatening situations and does not diagnose any condition.
